For over a century, the brave men and women of the Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Whitehall Fire Department have stood as guardians, safeguarding the town of Whitehall from the ravages of fire. Since 1898, their unwavering dedication has ensured the safety and well-being of the community they serve. Additionally, the Jefferson Valley Rural Fire Department has been diligently protecting the rural areas of Whitehall since 1952, extending their reach to ensure the utmost safety for all residents. Together, these three organizations form an indomitable force, working hand in hand to keep Whitehall and its surrounding areas secure.

Business meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7 pm, Training meetings are the 1st and 4th Tuesday of every month times vary.

To Become a Volunteer Fire Fighter, learn about what is required below. Then fill out an application and attend the next fire department business meeting. After approval by both the Members of the WVFD and the Town Council, you can start training.

Requirements for Volunteer Ambulance Team
Sec. 16-31. Qualifications of Volunteers:
All volunteers must meet minimum qualifications. All volunteers qualified to drive the ambulances shall have a valid state driver's license and shall have a professional CPR certification. All volunteers providing patient care shall either have a state EMT license, a state physician license, a state nursing license with a medical director's signature, or be grandfathered in by the state to provide pre-hospital care.

Sec. 16-27. Rules and regulations.
said department shall make such rules and regulations governing its body and organization as it shall deem fit; provided, however, that the same shall in no way conflict with any of the rules or regulations adopted by the town council governing said fire department.

Requirements for Volunteer Fire Department
Sec. 20-30. Qualifications of firefighters
The town determines that age is a valid, bona fide occupational qualification for the position of firefighter because of the rigorous physical demands and the expectation of many years of emergency service. The qualification of firefighters shall be that they have passed a pre-employment physical examination by a practicing physician duly authorized to practice in this state.
